Mysore Palace


Mysore Palace is one among the India’s most visited monuments. It is situated in the heart of the city. The Mysore palace was built of wood but got burned in 1897.In 1912 the palace was rebuilt and currently the Palace is in Indo-Saracenic style. The palace is three-storied stone structure with a 145 ft five storied tower and marble domes. The sculpture of Gajalaxmi (the goddess of wealth, prosperity, good luck)is placed above the central arch.

There is a huge garden surrounding the Palace which is designed by the well-known British architect Henry Irwin. The Mysore palace is a national treasure which is well preserved. The Palace is transformed into museum that preserves souvenirs, paintings, royal costumes, jewelry and other things belonged to Wodeyars. The Palace is beautifully designed and contains luxuriously decorated rooms.

The ground floor of the palace displays costumes, musical instruments, toys and many portraits. The upper floor consists of weapons. The palace has works of art from all over the world. The Palace is just a visual treat to the visitors with its historically important structures. The Royal portrait gallery adds the beauty to it. A portrait of the Mysore Palace is illuminated with 98,260 bulbs. Photography is banned inside the palace.
