The talking robots, Artifical robot arm in manufacturing companies, chatbots, and Sophia. What are the made of? How do they think? How are they different from us? Yes, these questions are commonly talking among all of us.
A few decades from now, our home, street, shops, the entire world will be filled with artificially intelligent systems. This system will start to think like us. They will become a part of our society, yes, we all have seen these scenes in various movies. A great example is the movie “HER”, which is an Oscar-nominated movie where in the movie a person gets attached to a computer(female voice) who speaks to him.
So why there a is huge hype in this department of AI? it could be maybe after a few years from now, they are going to help us in all aspect of our life.
A clear definition of artificial intelligence can be stated as A machine completing the tasks which involve a certain degree of intelligence which was previously deemed only to be done by humans. Or we can say that, The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behaviour.
Combining AI with machine learning makes the system to understand, predict and solve various problems. For example, your phone has voice assistants such as Siri, Cortana or google assistant, they do voice recognition and process the answer back to you. Another voice recognition system is Homepods and Alex, they listen to your voice and give a good precise result back(speak to you).
The space station, Researchers, Manufacturers or any other departments are making everything autonomous using AI. Other great examples include Elon musk’s Telsa or google self-driving car, they all have self-driving mechanisms using machine learning and AI capabilities.
Even Google, IBM, Apple are putting a lot of their time in AI research to bring out better quality products using AI into the market.
Deep learning, Natural language processing(NLP), expert systems, image recognition, speech, planning and robotics are few of the areas in AI along with machine learning which makes the system great.
Also, the AI system requires many of the AI algorithms which are required to process good precise results.
That said, let’s go with the different types of Artificial Intelligence. There are basically two types of Weak AI or also called Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), which allows computers to outperform humans in some very specific tasks (the most famous example is IBM Watson).
Strong AI or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), the ability of a machine to perform the same intellectual tasks as a human being (we are far from reaching it).
Finally, the third level called Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) when a machine possesses intelligence that far surpasses the brightest and most gifted human minds in the world combined.
Another way to categorize it’s in four levels: Reactive Machines, which simply react to a stimulus (or several) but cannot build on previous experiences and cannot improve with practice (IBM Deep Blue); Limited Memory, can retain and use data for a short period of time but cannot add them to a library of experiences (Self Driving Cars) which was said earlier in this article; Theory of Mind, machines that imitate our mental models: have thoughts, emotions and memories (none yet exist) and finally Self-Awareness, or conscious machines, something that stays in the realm of science fiction (for now).
